Royal River
The Royal River comes down through Yarmouth into the northwest corner of Casco Bay, and its lower reach holds three boatyards within a few hundred yards of each other — an unusual concentration for a river this size, and the reason Yarmouth punts above its weight for service.
Depth is the constraint. The channel and its approach are shallow and shoal, and deeper-draft boats time arrival and departure around the tide rather than treating it as an all-hours harbour. Ask the yard what they carry at the float before committing on a low tide.
Once in, it is protected water in almost any weather, which is exactly why boats winter here.
