Great Pond
Great Pond is the largest of the Belgrade Lakes and the middle of a seven-lake chain in central Maine. It is shallow-shored, island-dotted, and almost entirely a summer-camp lake — E. B. White's "Once More to the Lake" is about this water, and the character he described is still recognisable.
The village of Belgrade Lakes sits in the narrow channel between Great Pond and Long Pond, and that channel is the reason the two lakes function as one boating area. Marinas, fuel and service cluster there and at the Belgrade end.
This is outboard and pontoon water, not cruising water. Season is roughly mid-May through September, and most of the fleet comes out of winter storage locally rather than trailering in.
